Calder House believes that education is about teamwork and welcomes the full involvement of parents in this process. Parents are kept informed of their child's progress and encouraged to keep in close contact with the school. Every term, parents are invited to meet individually with teachers at parents' evening and a full school report is sent to parents at the end of each term. This gives details of assessed National Curriculum attainment levels in core subjects as well as a report upon effort and motivation.
Parents are asked to take an active interest in their child's homework.
Calder House School is able to offer suggestions and support where homework has previously been an issue.
Parents are regularly invited to attend school assemblies and to join the Headteacher afterwards for an informal chat.
Each pupil’s individual educational plan is shared with parents and the six weekly staff reviews of these plans take account of parental contributions.
It is wonderful to see and feel part of a truly unique school and a culture that puts the interest of its pupils to the very front.

A man was walking along the beach one day. Ahead he noticed another, older man picking up a starfish that had become stranded on the sand and throwing it back into the sea.
“Why do you bother?” the man asked him. “The beach goes on for miles and countless starfish get stranded every day. You can’t really make a difference.”
The old man looked at the starfish in his hand and then he threw it to safety among the waves. “I can make a difference to this one,” he replied.
