Why Calder House?

Starfish

A man was walking along the beach one day. Ahead he noticed another, older man picking up a starfish that had become stranded on the sand and throwing it back into the sea.

“Why do you bother?” the man asked him. “The beach goes on for miles and countless starfish get stranded every day. You can’t really make a difference.”

The old man looked at the starfish in his hand and then he threw it to safety among the waves. “I can make a difference to this one,” he replied.

Countless children feel stranded at school. For some Calder House can make a real difference.

Sports

Calder House has an all weather sports court marked out and fully equipped for volley ball, tennis and badminton. The court has properly constructed goals areas for football and we have mobile netball posts for use on the court.

We also have a grassed football/ hockey pitch and freestanding goals. And thanks to a longstanding arrangement with the Ministry of Defence pupils from Calder House have the exclusive use of a large heated indoor swimming pool which is only a mile away from school.

We also have access to the fields immediately adjoining the school for cross country running and training.
