How are we different?

Calder House offers a unique approach to whole school specialist provision - one which delivers one-to-one specialist help without the loss of classroom teaching and which is tailored to meet the needs of each individual pupil.

Individual needs

Every pupil at Calder House has a personalised timetable designed to meet his or her individual needs. Click here to see what this involves and how it works.

"An outstanding teacher universally acclaimed by colleagues, pupils past and present, and by parents"

That's how the judges of the Teacher of the Year Award described Calder House's Head of Science, Mr Perks who came second in the 2010 Regional Final. More than 9,200 teachers entered the competition which covers the whole of the South West Region.

Technology

Calder House has a purpose built computer suite with eight workstations so that every child in every teaching group has access to his/her own computer. Pupils can create their own personalised desktop environments and store work within their individual user profiles.  We have networked colour printers and the model devices which enable children follow the National Curriculum in full - including remote programming. Broadband internet access ensures fast emailing and access to the web. The suite is small enough for the teacher in charge to directly supervise each child’s work and built-in security controls ensure that a log of all internet use is maintained by the school. Pupils are supervised at all times when online and their identities are concealed in any emails they send.

Our whiteboard is situated in the school hall where it is accessible throughout the day to all teachers. It is linked wirelessly with the internet utilising the computer suite’s dedicated broadband and is part of the computer suite network enabling work and resources to be shared between locations as required.
