What do we do?

Calder House teaches children with specific learning difficulties the skills they need to achieve their academic potential and successfully return to mainstream education.

"You are to be congratulated on a wonderful school and the excellent job being done on a daily basis."

"We thought you like to know that Sarah followed up winning the form prize two years ago and the science prize last year with two 7's and a 6 in her Key Stage 3 exams. She and we put it down to her five terms at Calder House."

Former pupil's parent

"An outstanding teacher universally acclaimed by colleagues, pupils past and present, and by parents"

That's how the judges of the Teacher of the Year Award described Calder House's Head of Science, Mr Perks who came second in the 2010 Regional Final. More than 9,200 teachers entered the competition which covers the whole of the South West Region.

Life after Calder House
At the end of their time at Calder House, the vast majority of our pupils transfer successfully to mainstream schools and go on to thrive within them. They take the change from a small nurturing environment to larger mainstream schools in their stride.

Pupils from Calder House go on to a wide variety of school in both the independent and state sectors. Click here to find out more about them.

We are delighted to receive feedback from our former pupils as well as visits from them. Messages from the parents of past pupils and from the pupils themselves testify to the long term benefits and effectiveness of the teaching and support given at Calder House.
