Why Calder House?

Starfish

A man was walking along the beach one day. Ahead he noticed another, older man picking up a starfish that had become stranded on the sand and throwing it back into the sea.

Why do you bother?” the man asked him. “The beach goes on for miles and countless starfish get stranded every day. You can’t really make a difference.

The old man looked at the starfish in his hand and then he threw it to safety among the waves. “I can make a difference to this one,” he replied.

Countless children feel stranded at school. For some Calder House can make a real difference.

An article about Calder House appears in the latest edition of the Bath Chronicle. It describes the special assembly recently held in school to mark Dyslexia Awareness Week. The assembly was attended by a number of former Calder House pupils including 23 year old Ben Breedon (pictured below) who recently graduated with a degree in philosophy from Cardiff University.
 
"The idea behind the assembly was to show current pupils some of the many inspiring and interesting careers that former Calder House pupils are now pursuing," explains Headmaster Andrew Day. "The children could see that hard work really pays off and that being dyslexic does not mean you can't achieve your dreams."
