Why Calder House?

Starfish

A man was walking along the beach one day. Ahead he noticed another, older man picking up a starfish that had become stranded on the sand and throwing it back into the sea.

Why do you bother?” the man asked him. “The beach goes on for miles and countless starfish get stranded every day. You can’t really make a difference.

The old man looked at the starfish in his hand and then he threw it to safety among the waves. “I can make a difference to this one,” he replied.

Countless children feel stranded at school. For some Calder House can make a real difference.

Pupils learn about policing
Wednesday, 25 November 2009 00:00
On Friday November 13th the children of Calder House School were treated to an excellent presentation by WPC Hawtin and Detective Sergeant Beament, of Wiltshire Constabulary. Both Police Officers, who are parents of children at the school, explained to pupils what their jobs involved, the equipment they use and how they go about catching criminals. The highlight of the morning for the children was 'arresting' three of their teachers, Messrs Day, Perks and Agombar, and locking them up in the back of the police car.

You'll be glad to know that the teachers were later freed - after being formally cautioned not to set too much homework in future!
