Ofsted 2015: OUTSTANDING!

15 December, 2015

Calder House has been rated as "Outstanding" in all areas following an inspection by Ofsted in November 2015. It is the second time in succession that the school has achieved the highest possible rating across all of the inspection criteria.

"Ofsted's judgement really matters to Calder House because it shines an independent light on the work we do here and the results we achieve. I'm delighted with this report and I would like to pay tribute and thank all our staff whose dedication and hard work it recognises. I would also like to salute our pupils – for it is their achievements, in overcoming the difficulties that once held them back, that is truly outstanding and is the ultimate measure of our success." Karen Parsons, Headteacher.

Here are just a few of the Inspector's comments and observations:

"Staff who were at the school at the time of the last inspection all say that it is now an even better place."

"Every pupil joins the school having to catch up and make up lost ground... by the time they leave, a good proportion have reading and spelling ages above their actual ages, despite their special educational needs."

"When pupils leave the school their attainment is generally in line with that expected for their age and often above."

"Pupils quickly re-engage with learning and enjoy their lessons very much. They experience success and become enthusiastic learners. The focus on learning means that behaviour in lessons is exemplary, with pupils focused on doing their best while also gaining great enjoyment and fulfilment from their studies."
